Another Kickass Show with DirtyDee!

14 11 2009

Click to see larger.DirtyDee “Done Dirt Cheap” Sweetwater put on another awesome show to remember on the stage of our wee Cat And Dog Pub this evening. A wonderful, appreciative crowd was there as well, whose generous contributions continue to support not only the pub and DirtyDee, but live music in SL in general.

If you missed Dee this time, he’ll be back at the pub for my birthday bash on December 22nd. Can’t wait that long? Contact Lauralee Clarity, Dee’s wonderfully sweet manager, and join his group.

Fun Times with Funky Feats!

12 11 2009

Click to see largerFunky Feats is a dance troupe in SL with an interactive show, as seen in the pictures. People don’t go to just watch Funky Feats; everyone is part of the show!

Lulu led a group of us out behind the pub, while I played a set of various Irish songs from artists such as the Clancy Brothers, The Chieftains, The Pogues, Dropkick Murphys, U2, Thin Lizzy, and more. When music this great combines with dancing this fun, it just can’t get any better…

…or can it?

Add to the fun times plenty of pints of the black stuff, and fireworks, and it becomes simply too much fun to have happen just one time. So we plan to have them back next Wednesday at 1PM SLT!

More pictures will be added soon!

Halloween and Halloween II

Even Bridget got dressed up! (Click to see larger)

The Cat And Dog hosted not one but TWO Halloween parties. The first was Friday the 30th from 4-6 PM, with special guest DJ Myn Delling. Her set was a huge hit and a great time had by all. The guests included (but were not limited to) a dead superhero, a skull bobblehead, a Voodoo-style zombie, and three scantily clad witches (which led to jokes about a Burlesque revue of Macbeth).

Then on Saturday the 31st at 11AM was THE SEQUEL *mwhahahaha*. This was our early EU-friendly Halloween party. The best treat of all, though, was that Eacen Taurus took the time to come briefly out of retirement at absolutely no notice for us. He played his (in)famous mix of mashups, with some Halloween-themed tunes thrown in besides. We had another round of great costumes, including a cowboy, a princess, a pirate, a couple characters from Naruto, a Terminator (sans part of his face), and a snow-globe. Don’t ask. You had to be there.

Today I’ve got to clean the place up and put away the decorations until next year.

Stop in to visit any time at the Cat And Dog!

Tonight Chance Jampuler christened the Cat And Dog stage with an hour of acoustic songs, some serious, some goofy as hell, some his own, some covers, and all in all a fun time was had by all. Apparently, he really likes vampires. And zombies that eat pizza. And cucumbers. Chance can be heard on his MySpace page, where you can also find information about upcoming CDs. Check him out inworld when you can.

Just a quick shout-out: last night’s set with DJ Eacen and his mash-up mania brought a new record attendance for our wee pub! At any given moment we had up to 17 people present all at once, and according to Bridget’s careful notes, we had 18 new visitors come in last night.

Well done everyone, and thanks for making it such a successful evening! Thanks especially to Eacen, for such an awesomely fun set; and to Mina, for bringing in so many of her friends to see the place. Slainte!

As many of you may already be aware, while the Cat And Dog is a decidedly Irish pub, I myself do not live in the Old Country. My grandfather’s grandfather came over in the 19th century, landing in Philadelphia, and the branches of our family tree spread throughout the country over the generations. I’m a proud Irish-American New Englander, and I make no attempt to pretend otherwise in RL or SL.

Still, it takes more than a green decor and a few Guinness posters to rightly call an establishment an Irish pub. Personally what makes a huge bit of difference for me is the music. But, as someone brought to my attention a few nights ago, it’s not just that either.

A young lady came in, having found the listing for an event by pure luck. She had a glance around the place, and after I greeted her, she asked me–in Irish–”How are you?”

“I’m well, thank you,” I (think) I answered back in the same language, “And yourself?”

“I’m good,” was her reply.

Before the conversation wandered too far out of my ability to keep up, I said (in English), “OK, we’ve pretty much reached the extent of my knowledge of the language.”

She laughed and said the same was true of herself.

So I like to think that for at least one patron, the place has passed the poseur test. Not bad for a virtual pub.
